The New Beginning of Arkonox Dorvan
Chapter 6
There was not a single bit of shade as we walked. It was two days long, we smelled like pigs in
the pigsty and we could barely talk. As night came, we shivered while we pulled our blankets on
top of us. Then it would be morning again where the sun with be beating down on us. It was
endless.
"Well…apparently a necromancer called Lohai set up a Sunspear Sanctuary somewhere around
this area," said Thorn quietly. "It was a sanctuary for great heroes of age…probably
we can rest there."
Dagger and I nodded weakly as sweat trickled down our faces. Suddenly we smelled an essence of
fresh water. I was so relieved. We followed the smell, as it got stronger. Unexpectedly, we
heard a mysterious cricket sound as we ventured down a dark and gloomy hall. We followed it
observing the scriptures of the walls.
"Oh my, this is the Sanctuary…the scriptures tell us of the past spearmarshals, we can
rest here." Thorn believed as he sat on the cold, wet floor. "Plus there's
plenty of water here."
We all sat down slowly as we panted weakly on the floor. Footsteps echoed through the floor but
we could not get up. Suddenly we heard faint sounds of a person talking. We were too weak to
get up. Then…I blacked out.
"Hello….hello? Are you ok?" a stranger's voice said.
I got up quickly, panting and sweating as I got up.
"Where am I?!" I shouted hesitantly.
"Shhhhh slow down will ya, gosh…what ya even doing ere anyway?" the stranger asked.
As I regained my sight, I saw a weird shape of an animal…more like a cat.
"AHHH!! Your-you're a cat?!" I shouted as I edged back to the wall.
The cat started shaking her head as she did a "tuting" noise.
"Really! You trouble makers always end up ere eh?" the cat replied. "By the way,
the name's Taby Cat."
I was confused and wondering where the others was.
"Hey Dorvan, glad your awake!" Thorn laughed as Dagger walked behind with a bucket of
water. "Got some drinking water from a nearby stream. And glad you met one of our members,
Taby Cat."
"Ummm…hello?" I replied nervously at the cat.
Thorn laughed.
"Bah, don't worry she's just teasing you…she's actually a human being
only she has bonded with an animal spirit. So she can transform to a Cat you see?" Thorn
assured me as he punched my arm.
"Really Thorn, you just had to ruin the fun!" Taby said as she transformed back into
a human.
I stared in amazement. Then I felt a great sense of laughter in me. I started bursting out in
laughter as I rolled on the ground laughing. Thorn and Taby just looked at each other confused,
and then joined in too.
We started refilling our water bottles as we set of further on our adventure. But we added a new person to the gang who wanted to help. A 16-year-old ranger that is quiet obnoxious yet eager to try new stuff out. She was young, energetic and often teased us all the time. Time we had someone new anyway…this might be fun.
