Chapter 1: IN THE BEGINNING:
Atraya Luminesa
Mage " you have done well Atraya your training is progressing well", the mage paused . Atraya, "are you paying any attention today" the young woman looked to be bothered by something as she just stood there her long golden blond hair whipped with the breeze. She was of fairly averaged height like the others her age. Her slim, sleek rather fragile build was common for a young woman aspiring to become a mage. The mage waved a hand in front of her " Atraya I am talking to you ". She seemed to realize that she let her thoughts take over her. "Sorry I did not mean to ignore you, it's just" she paused then stopped talking altogether " it's just what Atraya? " She hesitated before speaking, "My father has been gone almost 6 months now, I'm worried about him." her eyes seemed to swell with tears, but she quickly wiped them away. " Well Atraya you may go and this was the last thing I could teach you, you should go to Ascalon and find the Elementalist Aziure and her companions, she could teach you more." The mage then turned and left heading toward the great tower of ages. Atraya hurried home and began to prepare for the journey to Ascalon to continue her training and find out why her father had been delayed.
He only went to get his brother when he heard the news of the Charr attack" she thought to herself. " Atraya... Atraya your home", came a voice from another room of the small dwelling. " Yes mother I am", she said sarcastically. " Okay I'll put supper on." Atraya snapped " I'm not hungry and I have to go, the caravan to Ascalon leaves soon." Her mother, a rather tall woman with long auburn hair entered the room, "your leaving?" Atraya nodded " yes for Ascalon to continue training as an Elementalist," Atraya smiled " and to send Father home." Her mother smiled and hugged her daughter " good luck", and with that her mother left and began to make a meal for one.
Atraya ran to catch up with the caravan that had already left " Wait for me!" she shouted as she finally caught up with the caravan. The man ridding affront the caravan turned and galloped over to her" your fee, miss for traveling", he held out his hand. Atraya pulled out a tanned sack of gold and handed it to the caravan master before they set off. The countryside was stunning but the sleeping accommodations were not to Atraya's likening as she hated sleeping on anything other then a bed. As she lay there one night thinking, about her father while watching the stars, she felt as though she was being watched by someone or something. She sat upright and peered into the darkness while reaching for her training wand. When she spotted something moving she hoped it was another person who was traveling with the caravan " who's there" she said quietly. No answer, just the sounds of insects and the snores of the caravan guards. " Humph some guards" when suddenly a fierce monstrosity came from out of the darkness, bearing its razor claws and teeth as it hissed, drool flowed from its mouth, its scales shone a greenish-blue with the flickering light of the fire, several other creatures similar to the first also stepped out of the darkness and began hissing. "ATTACK! WERE UNDER ATTACK!" screamed Atraya as she fired off a blast of magic, the guards awoke and stumbled to their feet trying to gather themselves quickly only for one of the monstrosities to jump onto them and begin slashing and biting at there open flesh. "The caravan protect the caravan" screamed the man who had once been on a horse as he came from his tent, with his sword and shield. The fighting was brutal and many of the traveling merchants and citizens were already dead by the time the other guards had shown up to assist. The monstrosities retreated and Atraya gave one last flare to the fleeing attackers killing one of them. By morning the dead were buried and the scale was tossed into the open for the carrion birds to eat. After several more weeks the caravan finally arrived in Ascalon, the man on the horse bid them farewell and handed Atraya her gold back " all those who fight for this caravan are paid for their work", and with that he and the caravan went there own way.
Atraya made her way to her father's brothers house. There
was a young monk knocking on the door." is anyone here?"
Atraya tapped the monk on the shoulder startling him " sorry
I did not mean to startle you, but may I ask why you are at
my uncles house?". The young monk looked at her then in a
saddened tone he replied " I'm sorry young miss but your
uncle and his brother were killed in a recent Charr attack,
your uncle was told to defend the citizens from Rin that
were traveling here and his brother was helping him when
they were attacked, there were no survivors" he paused " I'm
sorry" he then brushed past her and left her standing there
alone. Atraya opened the door of her uncle's home, walked in
the house and locked the door. She fell to the floor crying
"father...father why" she mumbled aloud through tears and
sniffles. A day passed with Atraya not moving, just laying
on the floor crying. Her sorrow turned to rage " I SWEAR
THAT I SHALL AVENGE MY FATHER AND UNCLE BY KILLING ALL THOSE
ROTTEN, HIDEOUS, VERMIN CALLED CHARR!". The floor and walls
around her burst into flame and the door blew off its hinges
with the sheer force of magic that burst from Atraya in her
fit of rage. Atraya left the house, burning and went to look
for the Elementalist Aziure, to begin training to avenge her
father and uncle." The Charr shall pay for the pain they
have caused me, they will pay with there lives all of them."
Atraya arrived at Aziure's and knelt before her. " I come
here to learn the arts of an Elementalist, I am Atraya
Luminesa." Aziure looked at her then spoke in a calm tone "
I am the Elementalist Aziure and I welcome another to learn
from me in the art of the Elementalist.
